i wasn't worried about it, i planned on NOT using the mechanical fuel pump from the git-go..... found an electric fuel p[ump i'm gonna use today, pumps at 4-7 PSI.
made progress today, got carb rebuilt, new motor has all new gaskets and a fresh coat of paint..... hope to get it and the trans set in tomorrow. will have pics then!

I am in the process of doing the same mod on my 89. I have the same mounts, and so far they have been great. I am not an experienced mechanic, but I think this project is coming along nicely. You obviously have many more resources available to you, than I do for this type of work, and will probablly finish before me, but I have learned a few things. First, put the engine back as far as the mounts will allow, this will give you a full inch front to back travel. Fan/Water Pump clearance is a problem when you put in the radiator, mine is a "Be Cool", up to your electric fan. With the engine in the mid range position my single electric fan was too close to the water pump assembly. I did some mods there, I have pics if you need them, but a dual fan assembly would have made it all much easier. My headman headers are fine with clearance on the frame, oil filter/ and everything else I can see so far. Good luck!

here it is!!!! got the motor cleaned up, new gaskets, mated to the trans and set in the jeep! now the fun of wiring begins!



mmmmm 4-bolt main.....



all cleaned up!


ready to go in.....

it's a secret..... but really..... the motor came from an emergency generator for the local power company, generator was struck by lightning..... motor still ran perfect. it's 350 with 4-bolt main..... not 100% on the year, somewhere around early 80's is my guess. has only 532 hours on it..... if you multiply that by 55 MPH it would be equivilent to about 30,000 miles or so. ANd it was run on propane, so it's clean as the day it was made.
the blue thing is some sort of automatic throttle or something to that effect. power steering pump..... haven't gotten one yet.....

That's interesting. Every generator I've ever seen was diesel, but the fact that yours was propane leads me to believe that it was run indoors.

we got a 25kw koehler nat gas at work, with a pinto 2300 (2.3L) in it. and it was purchased in 2001.

it was run outdoors..... IIRC the operating RPM for the generator was around 1400 RPM..... this thing has had an easy life..... but it's about to get much harder!

those look like small port heads, valves should float around 5200-5500. you wont hurt anything.

i'm dumb as a box or rocks when it comes to electrical..... although, i have only one part of the VERY minimal wiring left to figure out..... the alternator. it's a GM 3-wire alt. what wires go where????? there's a bigger wire then 2 smaller..... we'll call them drivers side and pass side for easy clarification.......... help!!!

i have alldata for the 4.3 i put in my junk, it is showing the 3 wire alternator too.
here is how i am reading the diagram (cant post up here, sorry)
black/red - battery
brown - hot in start, showing a 3amp fuse. also shows this as being the charge indicator wire.
pink/black - i am thinking this is hot in start and run, but cant trace the wires easily. maybe someone will chime in on that one...it should goto pin 39 of the bulkhead fitting.
