more lift

if I already have a 2.5 lift (suspension), is there a way to get up to a 4 inch without having to buy a whole new kit? Can I just get different springs? I know very little about lifts, but I know I have a 2.5 and would like to get 33" tires under it eventually.

You can gain an 1" with a body lift. You can gain 1/2"- 1" with a shackle lift or you can gain an 1" with TJ style fender flairs.

As far as the suspension goes, you can't just add new springs. You would need a new kit that includes springs, shocks and probably a Tcase drop bracket.

I would not get a 3" body lift, but 2" is OK. I would not get more than 1" of lift via shackles (for every inch you go up in lift shackle lift, your actual shackles gain 2"

He speaks the truth. 1" body, 5/8" booms, and TJ flares. (Or flat fenders front and TJ flares rear). Go through the "What Would My YJ look like with XXX lift and XXX tires" thread. You will see many guys with the 2.5" and the above setup who do just as well (or better) than somebody running only a 4" suspension lift.

94 YJ w/ stuff. All the work/money I put into it, and the comment I get most is my $20 mod: "Hand throttle?!? That's awesome."

I third this. I'm running 3.5" springs with 1" body, 5/8" Currie booms, and I'm currently looking for TJ flares, at least for the rear.
