Mods to make headlight brighter ?

Is there any mods I can do to make the headlights on my YJ brighter. I have seen the HID replacements on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-95-CHEROKEE-WRANGLER-PROJECTOR-DIAMOND-CUT-HEADLIGHT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a543Q7c6 6Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c 293Q3a7Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhash Zitem360122333830QQitemZ360122333830QQptZMotorsQ5f CarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesbut they seem to cheep to be good. Anyone have any suggestions.

- new lights
- new performance sealed beams
- new H4 conversion
- new H4 conversion with performance lights
- HID

... I went with the H4 conversion, and upgraded to some higher end bulbs. Very nice both on road and off. Due to the amount of rocks on the roads, I am hesitant to spend too much $$$ on lights.

Some HID kits only have one beam, not the typical low and high.

Mark.

Go to stu olsen web site he shows a trick about adding relays to the headlights to provide a good amount of current to them and also try silverstar headlights for a cleaner brighter light source

if you take the wires going to your headlamps, run them to a heavy duty relay, control the relay with the leads that orginally came from the headlamp switch to trigger the relay.. hook 12+ to the switch side of the relay with heavy wire, when you turn on your headlamps that turns on the relay and you get a full 12volts to the lamps rather than the resitive value through all of your wiring.. you have to do this for the high and low beams.. same goes for your driving lights and fog lights..

I am a big fan of the silverstars. I also have done the headlight/relay addition from stu's site.

Silverstars or (what I use) Xtravision (both by Sylvania) are very bright and very reasonable in price.
Ever think about just getting an additional set of driving lights for when you really need them?

I just purchased the Sylvania Xtravision to swap out the old dim lights. I like the look and the aren't too expensive!

I liked the Cool Blue series of headlamps. It seems they are getting hard to find. Haven't tried the Silverstars, might have to!!

Trust me on this, when you use driving/fog lights with 100w bulbs, DON'T use the relays that came with the lights!! I ran both lights off the one relay that came with the lights, the fuse holder melted!! Just to get them to work, I had a spare relay from another set of lights, so, I wired one light, one relay. It did what it was supposed to do. When I replace the two relays with one big, high current relay, man, what the difference!!! Definitely spend the extra money and get a GOOD relay, and, it REALLY will make a difference.

Jerry

Im with Rusty and Brandon on this one. i have had both the xtravision, and now have the silverstars. i like the less-yellow color, and they are much brighter. in fact, i have lots of people flash their brights at me on the country roads around here. of course that just means i pull out the switch for my KC's... they turn their brights off quick after that

not trying to jack the thread... but i dont want to do any headlight conversions but i want the bulbs brighter. Can I just replace the bulbs in my headlights without doing any other modifications?

Have to agree with rusty and the others. I put silverstars in and could not be happier with them. They have a cleaner whiter light and the beam is much wider than oem. I also have some 130 watt procomps with a long range beam and between the two I have more than enough light for the darkest highway or trail.

This is from a Ford site, but it's the same for a YJ. I did this on an old F250 I used to have and it made a huge difference, takes all the amperage away from the headlight switch too.
