is mine an '87

So I was under the impression that I had an '87 4 cylinder fuel injected. But how do I confirm any of this? After reading alot of posts and talking to guys I have no idea what I got. I know I have an NP231. I do know it is 4 cylinder AND fuel injected. But not sure what year. This inquisition all started because I am trying to get parts to install power steering and want to make sure everything i buy is correct.

If it has injectors on a fuel rail where the intake meets the head, it's MPFI (92 or newer). If not, it's throttle body injected and it's a 91 or older.

I'd say '90 or older. I have a '91 with injectors on a fuel rail where the intake meets the head.

I found a casting number 8933004200. After some searching I am guessing my engine is an 89. very interesting. Maybe the engine was replaced at one time or my jeep is really an '89!!

Call the dealership with your VIN#. They can tell you what year your jeep is based off the VIN# Or if you like, post your VIN# or PM me your VIN# and I can look it up for you on my system

It is throttle body fuel injected

well according to these numbers i think it is an '87. so confusing

I just looked up your vin on TechCONNECT (chryslers service site), and your vin does come up as an 87 YJ.

so it is an 87. That's good. But maybe somebody put in an '89 engine? What about the tranny. I know i have the NP231 cause of a metal tag affixed to it.

Sounds like a motor swap at some point. I don't doubt that the tub vin is an 87 but signs point elsewhere for the drivetrain.

Are there any other things i could look for to make sure about the engine. So far every part I bought for my so called '87 fit.
