Mechanic needed willing to pay or give a very nice laptop (worth 1k)
Hey guys... I've come to the conclusion that I need help, not the labor parts of it but from somebody that has good knowlege with Jeeps, to be specific a 91' 4.0L YJ. What I need help with is getting my t-case to shift in 4wd, dropping my fuel tank to plug in the fuel pump
, installing a e-brake line, and help get the dash to work properly...Its working now but the speedomter lights arent working and before I wiggled some wires the five guages to the right of the steering wheel used to blink with the turn singnals. So i dont trust that...heh. So anyway, im in Mechanicville, NY or if you dont know where that is im 20 miles north of Albany. Im looking for someone to either come over here or I can oven tow the jeep to someones garage to work on there. I can either pay you with the money i would get from the laptop (plus my paychecks every week which are about $200) or just give you it. Here are the specs:eMachines M5310 Mobile AMD Athlon™ XP-M 2400+ Processor with QuantiSpeed™ architecture 1.36"h x 14.0"w x 10.0"d 8-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) 15.4" Widescreen TFT LCD WXGA (1280 x 800 max. resolution) 40 GB HDD AOL 3 month membership included 512 MB DDR (PC 2100) 56K* ITU V.92 Fax/Modem Integrated 802.11g Wireless LAN, 10/100Mbps built-in Ethernet DVD/CD-RW Combo (CD-read 24x; CD-write 24x; CD-rewrite 10x; DVD-read 8x) Touchpad with vertical Scroll Zone PC2001 Compliant AC '97 Audio Built-in Stereo Speakers ATI® RADEON™ IGP 320M 64 MB (shared) Video Memory 6.5 lbs. with battery Pre-Installed Software: Microsoft Works 7.0, Microsoft Money 2003, Encarta Online, Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™, Power DVD, Microsoft Media Player, Real Player, Internet Explorer, Netscape® Navigator, MSN®, CompuServe®, AOL, Norton AntiVirus 2003 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 IEEE 1394, 1 VGA external connector, 1 S-Video Out, Microphone In, Line Out, PCMCIA Slot (Card Bus type I and type II) 3 YEAR WARRANTY from BestBuy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see im very despreate, as ive had this Jeep since the summer of 02' and its still not on the road. This thing needs to get finished. Please call me or email me at: 518-470-2477 BikePhantom38@aol.com Thanks, Scott

Dropping the fuel tank is not too terribly hard for 2 guys with some automotive knowledge. The wiring could be a *****, but with a shop manuel, voltmeter, spilcers and sodering gun not too hard. (I do that all the time) I would first ask around for tips on how to correct these things first before you give away a computer. Also don't you have any buddies that can lend a hand? Will provide more detailed info if you want... Good luck, John ![]()

i would also reccomend using your buddies, some of them have to know a little something about cars in general and this forum is a great data base.
the t-case could also be a linkage problem, it might just need adjusted, i've had to do this a couple times w/ a lift and what not. the wiring would be pretty time consuming but normally able to be done. i've taken my whole dash apart and while it can be pretty imtimidating just looking at it, it might just be that some contacts are dirty or something of that sort, there are just a ton of screws to keep up with. the gas tank, you just need a couple of extra hands and the e-brake cable shouldn't be too much of a problem, after all is just a cable get a hanes or i forget what the other manual is that is pretty good for cars, if you haven't already, i know mine has answered a lot of questions, sometimes you have to hunt for them though Ross

I'd say pick up a Chiltons(more detailed than Haynes) or a FSM. The work would probably not be that bad, and you would know what was wrong for future reference. As long as the Jeep is driveable, I would say do it yourself.
Note: Don't attempt to drop the tank when full, it's much easier empty. I know! BTW, did anyone notice the irony? Quote:

Well i got one of the problems sorted out. I took the dash back off and come to find out after all the worries and hassel it was about 6 dead bulbs and a couple plugs inserted wrong... IM really happy to get the wairing harness under control... Also now that I think of the t-case i did help take it out and put it back in, while doing that we had to maess with the linkage...So hopefully adjusting the linkage will fix that.... As for the fuel tank drop... well i guess my lazy butt needs to get under there and start chopping the bolts off to get if it off... Oh and i forgot about the e-brake... well i started working on that too and found which cable it was...
So i guess the laptop isnt for trade anyone since im not pissed at the jeep anymore ![]()
