MC2150 + HEI Upgrade Makes Moose Happy

I finally took the plunge and ordered the MC2150 and an HEI upgrade kit. Once the parts arrive and the swap ensues, I will post pics and progress.

Anything you fellers that have done this swap already wanna tell me?

I have mc2150 1.21 ( usually found on 5.8L) had to switch out the high speed valve for one from a 5.0L
I have the TFI pretty happy with the combo
works really well now that i have tweaked things.....that is part of the fun.

Well, I bought a complete kit from a dude on eBay. I don't really have the time to go junk yard diving and then time to fiddle with everything to make it work.

I just wanted to take it out of the box, and hook it up....basically. I know that work is involved, just didn't want too much fuss. Same deal with the HEI kit.

hes not that great, the instructions arent what there cracked up to be, the carb still doesnt run right(i did the hei install before) all i can say is it is loud under full throttle..the swap is easy to do, you have to make ur throttle work urself, he doesnt explain how to do it, just shows pictures, if i were to do it again, i would of done the kit myself.

Many here have purchased it from him. I got mine and he was impossible to get through to for questions. He also took well over a week before it was even shipped. The instructions were OK, but a lot of overkill that you had to sift through. This forum is where I figured out the questions I had. There are lots of threads on this site. Read them and you will be fine. It will make a difference in how the jeep runs. I hope to fix the rest of my issues and get her on the road again soon.

Well, I didn't purchase it for the instructions, just the parts and I figured with almost 2k in good feedback, he can't be that bad. And the price was right.

As the rest of you, I get my Jeep info here.

Where do you tie in the Hot for the HEI. I am swapping in an engine that came with an HEI installed. The only thing I haven't found is where to connect the hot on the Jeep's electrical.

yup that is the guy i bought from
the 1.21 mc 2150 carb will not work as it requires a differnet high speed valve that works under a different load requirement than the 4.2 can create.
so i had go to the auto part supplier and order a reman carb then get the right high speed off a 302 carb i could have went with a 1.08 but i figure 1.21 for more air flow. now that i have things working right it seems pretty good and i use a lot less fuel.
I also found that a air breather filter housing that goes on the carb from an 85 ford bronco ii with a 2.8 V6 will fit great on the carb. and keeps the filter cleaner longer and keeps water from soaking the filter element. and quiets down the engine as well.
forget amout the electric choke and go with a manual choke.

Got the manual choke setup.

you can order these parts from a carburator parts supply the valve is $6 Walker is the manufacturer
I'm currently using a plain colour and still may need to drop to a lower one
1.21 came with a violet one which is the highest forget about using 5th gear with this valve.
I have a brown one from a 2.8L ford that i may try next

lots of tuning to get a carb to work perfectly for a 4.2L but my set up is #50 jets with a 89 in/Hg power valve (not to ve confused with accellorator pump)
acellorator pump is on the foward face of the carb the enrichment power valve is on the bottom side of the carb.
I have very no stuble on take off minor hardly noticable stubble when at cruise with slight tip in to the throttle and 5th works good at 70mph so that tells me i need to drop my power enrich valve to a lower presure/HG.
but it works for now and i'm happy.

parts catalogue
http://www.walkerproducts.com/Catalo...ord2barrel.pdf
supplier
http://www.swapsupply.biz/catalogmain.html
just give him the part Number and he will supply price or navagate and find price list.

I'll continue to search pick and pull as it cost nothing for me to put the vavle in my pocket. nice to have a yard that cares more about the price of scrap than the potential worth of a part parts price = scrap weight value.
