MC2150 Choke Thermostat really needed?

I am in Houston, Texas and my buddy is having a pain adjusting the choke thermostat that was paired up with the MC2150 upgrade. Is the choke thermostat really needed? I've read on random internet pages , referring to other vehicles, that it may not even be needed in "hot" areas.

Any ideas?

Chris

If your idle mixture screws are set right you will still need a choke to start from cold. Adjusting the choke is simple and will stay put when set.
I have no issues with the electric choke over here in NM.

Stroker, this choke coil doesnt seem to work right
If i set it cold, it wont open up enough when warm
If i set it just to open when hot, it wont close enough when cold
But it will begin to close slightly when hot for more than about 30m continuous
?????? WTF?
Bad coil?
Never had this problem with my Holley elec choke
I set it cold and its worked ever since

Chris, yes you need it
The elec is easier than the manual
Not to mentoin youre still wired for it
What you dont need is the water jacket in the intake

Did you pull the electric choke coil and flip it over? On the 2150 it works backwards from the stock carter.
