Maximum tire size for stock YJ

I have a '90 YJ and I am planning to put on 30x9.5 tires. I don't have any lift yet, but was hoping on putting larger tires on in the mean time. What is the largest I can put on without a lift, or do I need a mild lift?

I have a '90 YJ with 30s on it & it's fine. I had a friend with 31s & no lift. I think they rubbed a little on tight turns. My 30s don't rub at all.

my 92 YJ came with 31x10.50's that rubbed a bit, but not too bad on trails, no rubbing on the street.
i just put on 32's while i wait for spring/shock lift kit and i can't get out of the driveway witout rubbing!!
i gotta say 31 is max without lift.

I'll let ya know in a few days. I'm waiting for my rims to come in, then I can mount my 31's. If I have rubbing, I'll just throw a shackle lift on.

I originally planned on getting 30's but the prices were identical, so I figured, why not?
