Great Topic!

Wow! Lots of good info here. Hey over2land, I just picked up the Jan 09 issue of JP Magazine, and though it doesn't deal with consoles, there is a great article called Waterproof Tunes (might be online as well at www.jpmagazine.com ) and some great direction on how to get rid of the head unit from the stereo and just run your iPod / MP3 through powered amp. Might be worth a look? No more wrecked heads! And I know what you mean, somehow my past posts were missing too.

Well, Mike will be back from Iraq in less than 2 weeks (about damned time too) and we should be bringing new life to the Tuffy vs Maxbilt argument.

Hey Tuffy, how about you send us one of yours for a side by side, unbiased comparison?
With over a decade in the sheet metal fabrication industry I think I qualify to do a thorough comparison of these two products.

/me thinks it would make for a nice thread

That is right... unfortunately after a good communication with maxbilt about arranging my delivery of their console.. I found out that my return home is being delayed 1 week. It would be good to have a tuffy console and a max bilt side by side.

Why? All the points have been made. Incessant business owner bragging starts to sound like begging. Just let some folks buy either, use either, and report back here if they wish.

x1000

It looks like a bunch of flat pieces of steel welded together. I dont want to put it in a BMW, but seriuosly, how about a little comfort and style.

$400!!!
That is alot of jack when you consier the price most of us paid for our rigs.

I agree. Mine doesnt have any cup holders (YET), but I built mine in a couple hours. I need to fab up a lock, but its different from what people are used to seeing.

We appreciate the offer to do a comparison but I really don't see the value in it. I guess I didn't know that there really was a Tuffy vs Maxbilt argument. For anyone interested in doing their own comparison, Tuffy has photos, specifications, and detailed listing of features and benefits on our web site at www.tuffyproducts. I am also willing to field any questions on any of the Tuffy products. It seems everyone wants a little something different in a console so it usually comes down to what is more important to that individual. 2009 is Tuffy's 20th anniversary of producing high quality security consoles which means we have been continuously improving the products since 1989 and the quality/security is top notch.

Thanks

Yeah who ever compared Smittybilt to a Tuffy or a Maxbilt is crazy. I got my Smittybilt and returned it immediately, if you plan on ever taking of the doors, top, or even have a softop it offers basically no protection. The Tuffy is well tough, and the lock is great...

I love my Tuffy.

I'll hit up one of the local 4x4 forums around here and see if anyone has one then. I'm interested in seeing how they compare. I welded my own lock box up, so I purchased a "comfort" console.
Oh crap, kid just got hurt, gotta go!

Glad to see the thread is still alive, marine mike should have some things to post about when he gets back. check out the vendor section for some other new products that we are selling, (switch panels, stereo blank out plates, etc) Your opinions are how we make our products the absolute best that they can be, and yes, that means it comes with a price. Boatie, that is an awesome looking console, very clean looking.
Jeff, Happy aniversary and I wasnt under the idea that there is an argument either, thanks for being a part of this thread as well. Keep up the good work.

There's always an argument/debate when two companies are selling a similar product.
Shimano vs Campagnolo
Ford vs Chevy
Hustler vs Penthouse

It's what keeps YOU guys on your toes and is what gives us as consumers a better product in the long run. Sure, in the end there will probably be only one manufacturer of high end security consoles. But you had better believe that they make the best damned console on the market by that time. And it's things like this that bring that about.
And I'm happy to be helping Mike evaluate your console. I was lucky enough to find someone with a Tuffy. Unfortunately he won't let me attempt to destroy it and break into it... oh well.
But he's willing to let me take it to work and have some of the more experienced welders and fabricators take a peek at it. And the guys I work with are some of the best people in the industry. Yes, I'll say that about them.
