I like the looks of the console, I agree that it is hard to give up the $400 to get it though. The LED's are a cool idea, I get sick of being in the dark trying to use my cell phone to find stuff in the jeep. In my opinion, if I had the money that would be the console I would buy.

You can get a battery powered LED light that will mount anywhere you have the space. We sell them as an accessory to mount inside the Tuffy console but you could use it anywhere. It has a switch that will automatically turn it on when you open the console lid and off when you close the lid or you can set it to manual turn on/off. ![]() http://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-220-870-auto-onoff-led-light.aspx Jeff Fox Tuffy |

Thanks for the link, seems like what I've been looking for. (I have even been looking at book lights from Wal-Mart)

I do too, and I don't see the logic in making a knock-off of a Tuffy at $153 more. A few bucks of lights and switches? If you are willing to sell it for $300, then sell it for $300, not "For you, sucha deal." Even at $300, I'd rather get a $247 Tuffy (per Tuffy web site, with free shipping) and do up my own add-ons.

That is a well thought out product. I am in the market to replace my cheapjeep console.
I do have 2 issues with what I am seeing in the photos, though. The hinge I can see (and possibly the one I can't) do not appear to be mounted such that rain won't run across them (and eventually through them). My jeep is topless in the summer, and everything must be waterproof. My second issue comes from my sheetmetal experience, it may be splitting hairs to most. In a premium product, I really do not like the use of external pop rivets, especially dissimiliar metal installations. Hollow aluminum rivets in steel structure invites corrosion (see topless comment above). Solid driven rivets are passable, but steel highlocks for non removable applications are preferred. Stainless steel truss head screws backed by self locking nuts would be a second choice. With blind nuts (nutplates or tinnermans) and stainless screws in non security locations. Still, were I to set out tomorrow morning to build 3 of these things, I doubt I could do it for under 1100 bucks (charging for my time), and with the time it would take to draw up plans and design what I want, the price would be higher still. I do like the mention of "marine stainless hardware", as I often shop the boat stores for some of my interior jeep doodads (again see my topless comment). Thanks for participating in this forum and listening to us discuss your creation. |

Just curious, why does it say on your site that this console is only for 91-95 YJ's???? There is NO difference between 87-95 between the seats.
