Manifold on YJ's

I heard that it was a common fault to get a hairline crack at the manifold and so looked carefully to discover that there is a smear of exhaust sealant already present! Hmmm Apparently the manifold is steel tube and not cast iron so the best repair is to weld strengthen the original (as I also hear that a new part can be as expensive as 400 - and just as likely to fail.
Anyone had any experience of this?

Best wishes - Hwfa

My manifold also cracked, I replaced it with a Pacesetter Armor-Coated Header for $300.00

I also got the hairline crack in my manifold. Or rather, the Jeep had it when I bought it, and it took me two months to really hear it.

Replaced with a Doug Thorley header (P/N 634Y), and have had no problems with the Thorley's material quality.

Thanks for the advice folks - After consideration I decided to weld up the hairline crack in my exhaust, strengthening it at the same time. - there was room to do it I did it in situ. Seems fine
Best wishes
