making body longer ....

Hello,

Zorlac here,

i've got a question, since the tax one has to pay over here in belgium, is based on the wheelbase to cargospace ratio of 50 percent, and my Wrangler yj is just about it, i got the idea to longen the body at the back with a few cm's...since i was about to "pickup" the back, and a longer body would look even cooler...

has anyone of you guys ever done this? I was thinking about removing the back pannel, and then welding a piece in , with the excact same mounting points and welding spots? The total lenght would not go further then the rearbumber.

Everyone over there will clearly declare me nuts, but those few extra cm's can save you here over a 1000 bucks in tax you have to pay for your 4x4...talking about stupid regulations....

please help me out.....

I've never done it but have seen it done. Looks fairly simple if you had welding skills and just remount your bumper/crossmember.

thats stickin it to the man...good work dude. yea i heard taxes and fees for vehicles in Europe are crazy, when i went with my dad on a business trip we were in Frankfurt for like 4 weeks, he is head software eng. for exxon mobile so we gotta cruise around in a black ferrari f430, i'd hate to see what the fees would be like for that beast. it should look cool though, post up some pics if you ever go through with it, good luck.

Look where the sheet metal seperates from the side pannel and the rear corner

Just seperate the body there and create yourself a piece about 4-6 inches longer and rivit it in. the only prob I see is dealing with the gas fill tube. If you chose this spot to seperate, it would be behind the roll bar and would be real easy to do.
