Emissions timer.

You can replace it or pull the bulb.

This thing. Not sure if every year has it, but it just runs as a timer to tell you to spend money at the dealer every so often.

Not to be confused with the check engine light.

Remove tie back wires throw away. Less parts less weight= more mpg. That is the only cheap fix you get with a YJ so cherish it.

Ah, there it is, the Master Reset Button. Activate that and everything defaults to factory specs, MPG jumps to max as well.

418 miles on 19 gallons of gas. Can't beat the BBD !

I say that lightly. It has no future purpose and it weighs less than a pond. Joking!!!! It has no effect other than the light and does not affect performance or send any signal to the ECU. 5k miles since I removed mine I needed to put my posi lock cable through the firewall and it was in the way. I had already removed the bulb.

Do you have any tips on taking it out? Or pictures?

It is held in with screws, unscrew it, disconnect wire, done.

It's usually located above the gas pedal and brake area

And there's no negative effects that it will cause by removing it?

Not unless the maintenance required light being on is a positive.

in simple terms, this was a timer put in at the dealership that only a dealership tech could reset that would get you to come in and replace exhaust parts and wear parts. It really wasnt needed. And there is not one single thing that is negative about removing it. Get rid of it.
