From my Chilton's manual
"Emissions Maintenance Reminder Light"
The light comes on at about 82,500 miles and indicates the oxygen sensor and other related emmissions service is required...
The oxygen sensor and EMR are interdependent. When the reminder light illuminates, the oxygen sensor and EMR should be replaced simultaneously. This is important in ensuring proper engine performance. Maintenance reminders for 1991 (and later) vehicles are reset using a Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB).
Resetting or replacing the EMR without performing the required maintenance is a violation of federal law. Only after performing the required maintenance, should the EMR be reset.
Bottom line. The dealer can reset the light when He changes the oxygen sensor or you can replace it and show the dealer the old one and the new one installed and then the dealer can reset the light. I think the EMR module is only used on 1990 or older vehichles, the newer vehichles use the DRB.
If you are not inclined to perform the service you could always disconnect the light. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
