Thanks, Branden_YJ, I thought I was loosing my mind!! The pics showed up when I previewed it, but, it showed up as links when I actually posted it! So, I'll have a few more posts before I can do that, I can deal with that, I can understand the spam can get pretty bad on forums. Love that CJ-7, it still looks like a Jeep, but it can scream down the track, apparently! That was VERY impressive!!

Do what you think is fun. I have been very involved in the Muscle Car scene... and this is the type of dicussion I would expect there... but was not expecting it here.

While I am not looking for a Drag Jeep.. I applaude what you are doing. Push the boundaries. You gotta know that the first guy who put on 35's on his jeep got pointed at. "Are you trying to be a mini monster truck!" (FYI, I have heard that comment)

Give it a try, have fun and post pictures ! ! ! !

My thoughts exactly. May not be for me but give it hell! I wish I could be of more help to you. I have a friend that has an old CJ that he runs 10's in, it isn't lowered but he says it is scary as hell! I like to drag race, I have a 2003 SVT Cobra that runs low 12's on street tires. I'm just getting started in the Jeep scene, but I am loving it!

I emailed that guy, and am eagerly waiting his response. Would hydraulics take the place of the leaf springs? I will let you know when I find out.

It looks like the shackles are still on the front, possibly just the main leaf left? I don't think the suspension is lowered that much, maybe 2-3 inches at the most... It has 13" wheels with some pretty low profile tires.. That alone is good for 4-5 inches.. I bet with some regular 205/75R15's it won't sit too much lower than a stock 4 cylinder..

i saw that one posted on ebay, it had 2" lowering blocks for "improved parking lot handling" as stated in the add,
now you cant do any of this to your jeep...unless you chop the top like people do to old rods' that for sure would make a great show stopper and look pretty sweet too

I put 60 series tires on 15 inch wheels. While the total height difference between what was on there is 4 inches, it only lowered me by 2 inches and opened up the wheel well by 2 inches. The lowrider jeep has no wheel well showing, and with 13 inch wheels, he must have come down at least 6 inches. Blocks that high do not sound like they would be very stable-kind of like walking on stilts. And removing all but the main leaf spring would create a really big reverse arch.

Needless to say, I am still waiting for him to email me back, otherwise I will call him. Inquiring minds have to know.....

another thing to think about with either blocks or taking out leafs would be the axle wrap that would occur from the torque from the v8, i would think that alone would be a reason not to take out any leaf's, maybe you could try leafs off something else that are flat-ish that are stiffer, i know stock leaf's off of mid 90's f250's the fronts are almost inverted possibly could work

I just spoke to Freddie, and he both took out leafs and added blocks. But he did not have the torque of a V8. Like I said, I plan on going to a shop that specializes in truck leaf suspensions and see what they have to say. Like I also said, this is not a project that has a deadline or that I am rushing. The 4.2 runs well (once it starts, which is difficult if I dont use it for a few days).

While the back is certainly lighter than the front, it is NO DIFFERENT than any other American car. And while the wheel base is short, others have told me it is not a problem. Remember, altereds and T-Buckets also had short wheelbases and used to drag race all the time without incidents. Plus, I can always increase the wb-kits are available to move the front foward and the rear back, should I want to.

But please remember, this is NOT a serious track car. It is being built for fun. Something to cruise around in with the wife and kids, show off at local car shows, etc. Much cooler (literally and figuratively) than some hard topped sedan.

Laugh if you will, but at least I am building my Jeep for a purpose that it will be used for. As I said before, most Jeep owners NEVER intend to go off road-they just like the Jeep image. Personally, it seems as silly as the giant wings on Hondas to set up a Jeep for off-road and never use it there. In NYC, not that I am a Jeeper, I notice them. And I can honestly say that I see at least one Jeep on every block or two. And I can also say that NONE of them are ever covered in dirt or mud
i say go for it. at least your building it for what you intend on using it.
