LOUD squeeling noise

so im gettin ready to go out for a cruise in the jeep, normally there is a little squeel on initial start up and it goes away....well this one didn't, drive all the way up the street, squeeling loud as hell so stop, look down, im barely pushin 8 volts through the alternator so my guess is its the belt on the alternator or the alternator itself isn't cuttin the mustard. thing that makes me most upset, i was goin for a cruise with a cute little southern girl who actually asked if i could bring the jeep with the doors off she made me promise another time but still...i gotta get this thing fixed asap.

I had this happen to me before, turns out it was a tension wheel on the drive belt had seized up. Some pb plaster and time for it to set in fixed it. Never had problem since.

The weird thing is that I thought I hear a minor bang, almost like a fart sound coming out of my Jeep, but I'm not sure what it was. It has never happened before the glue incident.

Had the same thing happen to my 4cyl. The belt tensioner was locking up. After replacement, no more squeel.
