Long crank, start. every time

94 yj 2.5l. the only codes are 12 and 33, so nothing there, it will crank but not start. the only! way to get it to start is to keep cranking, i know this is bad, but its the only way, not even turning the key on off on off get it. to start you have to crank about 30-45 seconds until the CEL comes on, then turn the key off and it will start, but on if you keep your foot on the gas or it idles too low. after thats its fine, this happens hot or cold, any ideas?

The passage to the idle air bypass valve may be blocked. You might need to pull your throttle body off and clean it. The TPS sensor could also be bad. Just a couple things it could be.

It will be on the side of the throttle body.

try turning the key to on... (dont engage the starter) until you see the check engine light come on and then try and start it.

sounds alot like it may require brain surgery soon. that is where they replace the three capasitors in the ecu. mine did the same thing. it eventually took 20 minutes to see the checkengine light finally come. did the "brain surgery" fixed it rite up. im not a pro butthats what happened to me. the nice thing is that the who;e process cost about $6

search in this forum for brain surgery. The caps are the same rating as what they were when new. Radio shack is a good source for them.

X3 on the brain surgery, this is the classic symptoms. The good news is that the parts to fix it are less than $5 and some effort. Instead of hundreds for a new computer. I think the write-up is in the FAQ's at the top of the page.
