Is this a light bulb plug? Anyone know what it is for?

So i was trying to check on the condition of the bulbs in the panel over the steering column and i saw something i've wondered about many times. It is right under the speedometer. Looks like a bulb would plug in it but it might be something else. I wanna say it looks factory here's a pic and any clues would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention when i first took the dash panel out the black plug i am holding was plugged into the metal/silver gadget (also in pic) that's affixed under the speedometer. Also the metal "thing" has a small window which can barely be noticed on the pic.

Wonder if this could be a dome light for the extra optional buttons right below that. Its a small black pannel.

yes, it is to illuminate the switch panel on the right of the steering column, immediately below that light. Base models do not have any switches here, but just a blank cover. If you cut away the cover, the Carling switches fit almost perfectly.

photo is not mine, but I did the same.

Nice!

Do you happen to know what kind of bulb goes in it? I actually have one switch there that i put myself.

Those in the black panel look great!
