Lifting the body off the frame

I am looking to lift the body off the frame of my 89 YJ. I have a hoist and straps to do this with. Can I lift the body with straps on the roll bar and the bars that go to the windshield frame without damaging any sheet metal?

Assuming the tub & windshield frame isn't overly rusted - you should be okay.

I think so. I've seen forklifts carry around whole (junk) jeeps at the junkyard this way...goodluck!

You could always run the straps under the body as well if you are worried about the roll cage not being strong enough in tension. I'd put two heavy duty straps laterally underneath and a strap connecting the two at the very center bottom just to make sure they don't slip off the ends. Wood padding to help keep it from squeezing soft spots.

Or give the roll cage a shot and let us know how it works so I can do the same someday
