Lifters didn't do it, Plaese advize

Motor had a little rattle (258). Over a week it became a full on banging. When I remove the rocker and rod from the intake side of #2 cylinder it stops. Changed lifters, rocker and rod. Still there. Valves look good. Piston and ring look good. What do I do?

I second the camshaft. We rebuilt the top end of my buddies 258 and it was still popping out of the carburetor. We put in a camshaft and lifters and all was good. Generally if you replace the lifters and rods it's good to go ahead and put a new camshaft in.

I have a jeep...and it is modified...I win.
