lifter ticking...I think???
so my jeep has developed this ticking that sounds like a lifter ticking....it seems to quit if I shut the jeep off and turn it back on, most of the time. I check the oil level and its good?? Do lifter develop a tick or go bad or is it maybe something else?? How can I check it??

Does the 4.0 have hydolic lifters? If so, the lifter could be stuck, causing the ticking. Its not too uncommon for a hyro lifter to get gunked up on its stem (where it extends) which will eventually develop a tick. They can be cleaned and reused if still in acceptable condition.

A cracked exhaust manifold can sound like a tick as well. But I have heard a lot of these 6's tick from lifters.

haha....the manifold is extremely cracked....just waiting on a guy to get back from his vacation to build my exhaust. I guess I will wait until I have the new exhaust in place before I worry about it. I have about 1500 miles on the oil change???? will probably change it this weekend just to be safe.
thanks
