lift first???

So my friend and I are about to start on his YJ, he was given a set of 33" tires. The problem is he can only do one thing at a time, he needs a 4" lift and a 8.8 axle. He wants to do the 8.8 first and gear it in the front to match then do the lift in about 6 months because it's a DD and he hates under powered vehicles as bad as I do. The guy a 4 wheel parts said to do the lift first then the 8.8 so the perches would be right. At first I thought maybe he just wants to sell him a lift but then told him he could get the lift he wants a little cheaper at another place. So what do you guys think, lift then the 8.8 or 8.8 then the lift?

lift first, that way you can set your pinion angle correctly on the 8.8, instead of having to change it

^ X2. If wait with the 8.8 you will be able to set the angle and not use the shims... weld it at the correct angle.

Also, just a note to your buddy, I run a 92 YJ on 33's with stock axles and have absolutely no problems. I am also running the stock 4.10's (4cyl), and am fairly happy with it. With the warm weather here though, I think I will be upgrading motor or gears very soon, one of the two. 33's and a 4cyl don't go together when you are trying to go 70!

33's also dont go well with a 4.0L and stock 3.07's and 5th gear

I just posted this same thing in another thread. I did my 4.5 RE extreme duty lift on my Sahara and put my 33s on it about two weeks ago. I am running stock 3.07s with absolutely no issues. I can run with traffic all day long... on the interstate and also red light to red light. Yeah, I'd like to find some 4.10s down the road but for right now my Jeep is looking cool and I find no driveability issues. Tell your friend to get it lifted and looking good and change his gears when he can afford them. And tell him to sell me those 4.10s when he is ready to upgrade! They are just what I need to go with my 6 cylinder.

I run the same deal, I only use 5th with no head wind/down hill. Its not that bad, you still can do 70 if you want. Hopefully I'll get new axles with 4.10 soon.
