let's see those custom front bumpers!
I am going to build a custom front (and eventually rear) bumper for my 95 YJ. I am thinking tube style, but would like to see some of what you guys have done.
I do have one question about it. What is the curved bar that goes over the area for the winch called, and what is the purpose? Is it just for mounting lights and a push guard type situation? I like the look of it, but If there is some hidden function that I should be thinking about when designing this thing let me know. I was thinking I would make 2 brackets to mount 2 3" tubes one above the other and have a shop bend the top part. ![]() But I'm open to better ideas. Post pics and measurements if you have them.

And if anyone has done this type of bumper what did you do for the ends of the tubes? I was thinking cut them at a 45 and weld a cap on.

I made this. The basic idea came from the wrangler-kicks-*** website
![]() (the orange lights are turn signals, I found my winch blocked a lot of the stock ones)

oh yeah, and I've seen a few that have an air tank built in to the bumper. I'm assuming this is so that you can store pressurized air in there and not need an on board air compressor. Is that the case, or is it only to go with on board air?

Typically one has a compressor on board with the tank/bumper. I advise against those honestly.

a bumper would only hold +- 2 gallons of air, Not nearly enough to air up even a single tire without a compressor connected.

that's what I figured, but in this hobby you just never know what kind of crazy stuff people have done.

Can't remember the width of the tube. I'll try to get my height sometime this week. The width is almost exactly the same as the bolt holes in the frame.
![]() Not really too much of a stinger. I planned to put lights on it at first, but didn't like the look.

And I'm guessing that since nobody has chimed in that there is no other function to the bar other than protecting your Heep when you run over wildlife and small children on bicycles?

mine
The air fittings hang out a little but they hold the 100 psi just fine. There isn't enough air to reup all the tires but it is a nice buffer for a compressor. ![]() Pay no attention to the baby winch, It's just there keeping the spot warm. ![]() |

nice, that bottom part is more like what I think I am going for. How did you bend the tube yourself. I always thought you needed special machinery.

I wanted my stinger to stick out front slightly, but the uprights protecting the winch made it straight up and down. it can push over any tree I can get enough traction to push over. the D rings are rated @ 10,000#s and the winch cost me only $250
