Over the past couple of days I was able to compete the bumpstops. I basically just used the old trick of taking hockey pucks and stacking them up to close the gap. In my case i drilled a hole through them, and bolted them through the lower spring retainer. In the front i took some aluminum round stock i had and made a couple of 1/2" spacers.

Today I was able to roll one of my other projects out of the shop and get the jeep up to the lift for the 'ole flex test.

At first i was only able to get the front end of the jeep up 24" before this happened.

At this point, the rear of the jeep was doing most of the flexing, so i used a chain to limit the droop of the rear axle. Then i was able to get the front wheel up about 36" my wheelbase is 103.5", so that would give me a 20 degree RTI score of about 1000. I probably could have gone a little bit more, but the passenger side spring was getting close to coming off of the upper spring bucket guide thing.

as you can see, the rear end isn't flexing too much. I may extend the upper bump stops on the rear which will help to keep the springs in their place so it will flex a little more. You can't really tell from here, but at this level of flex, there is still plenty of room to run my shocks outboard of the frame and not run into any issues. the rear may also flex a little better with some weight in the back of the jeep. the rear axle was still about 1.5" off of the bump stops.

Awesome. It looks like all that Geometry paid off.

Those unseated springs remind me of a Range Rover set up. They have a poly bushing wedge on top that allows the spring to dislocate and relocate.
Of course this LJ cries out for coilovers. It only deserves them after providing the perfect platform for your Masters. At least that would be my rationale.

Good luck and have fun.

I would have gone with coil overs. It would have made things much easier, however at the time i thought they were going to be too expensive. As it turns out bilsteins and rubicon express springs aren't too far behind, although still cheaper.

so i finally got the shocks in. I added a 2" spacer on the rear bump stops to help the rear end flex a little bit more. So here is where it's at now.

as you can see, it flexes a bit more. the middle of the tread to the ground is 40.5" so that is a 20 degree RTI score of about 1144. in actuality the tire will be compressed a bit when it's on an object, so it might actually be a little higher than that. I still have some shock travel to play with in the rear, so if i make the rear bump stop spacers longer, i can get even more flex. I think I will leave it alone though because really, how much flex do you need?

my new rear drive shaft should be done tomorrow, and today I ordered my limit straps. after that it will just be paint, wiring, fuel lines and brake lines.

just wanted to say thanks for the help and the inspiration.
I turned this:

into this:

sorry I dont have any updated pics, these are from about a nomth ago.

heres my build thread jeep stretch questions. - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

when I had questions, I used your build thread for most of the answers I was looking for.

I am also running the khaki lj unlimited top, except I havent found a source for the upper doors. you helped me to install it, so thanks. Im probably gonna sell my yj 1/2doors and locate some tj 1/2 doors so I dont have to chop the tj pin like you did. the striker is a little different but so what.

I stretched mine in front of the raised rear section for more backseat headroom.
check it:

I also chopped out the rear wheelwells to make room for a 3 person seat out of a 99' chevy suburban, and Im running a 3 person front 60/40 split bench out of a 99 ford ranger.

The wheelbase is 113", it has 38 inch toyo mts wrapped around 18x12 welds, dana 60's w/ 4.88's & arb air lockers front and rear, 1991 corvette TPI motor, built 700r4 w/lokar shifter, and 4:1 dana 300. Im running wrangler front leaf springs, and dodge dakota rear leaf springs with a military wrap, and an added leaf plus a snail wrap on top to combat wheelhop. Im not done yet, I still have some things on a list to complete before its ready to drive. Hopefully it will be done by christmas. so we'll see.

not trying to jack your thread, I just want to give credit where credits due

thanks, that turned out nicely! I especially like the added leg room for the rear passengers. I thought about doing that on mine but with my wheel base it didn't make sense as I would have had to stretch the jeep in two spots.

I had to order the sliding uppers because bestop no longer makes any upper doors in khaki. I got mine from quadratec, but they may not have anymore.
