With the help of this thread, i did the conversion. The hardest part was using those stupid metal clips. Other than that its pretty simple.

Quick question,

I have a 98TJ 4.0L with an AX15 that currently has the external slave setup. My trans took a crap on me last night, so I will be swapping this weekend. The "new" trans is from a U-Pull-It junkyard from a 93 Grand Cherokee IIRC. Regardless, it is the AX15, but that one is an internal slave setup. Do I need to buy anything to do the swap, or can I use all the parts from my current trans to do this? I guess its more about the bearings, as I assume I can reuse the bellhousing, shift fork, and cylinder (replaced this summer, so I know it is good). I need to pick up these parts soon, and any help is greatly appreciated!

This actually merits its own thread, post up your own new thread on this, and send me a PM so I don't miss it, and I will answer all your questions on this topic.

Great write-up. I'm on the final leg of this swap. Oh and for anyone who may need one, I have an extra clip for the fork that goes over it and the ball.

Don't know if these are another alternative if you want to make a braided line, but I ran across them accidentally on the Autozone website....

Hey guys after some unfortunate events I'm in the process of doing this swap as well. I just ordered these parts and want another set of eyes to see if I missed anything that is needed.

Fork, Release Spring, Bearing retainer and seal, Throw out bearing, External slave, Bell Housing and pivot ball.

Based on what I read in this thread I think I should have it all. Am I missing anything?

Thanks guys.

Will either bellhousing or long nose bearing retainer from ax5 work on this conversion if going on a 91 yj with 4.0l and ax15 trans?

You are probably already on the path to doing the swap but don't forget the retaining clip for the for for and pivot ball. I actually have an extra.

The AX 5 and AX 15 long snout front bearing retainer and respective bellhousings are not interchangeable.

The bellhousing for the NV3550 is interchangeable with the AX 15, but the front bearing retainers are not.

Thanks for the info. When I get all my parts lined up, I am sure that I will be back here asking questions. Once again, thanks all for the info.
