Leaking Windshield - How To Fix??

The windshield on my 94' YJ seems to leak when ever it rains leaving a puddle on my floor mats. The jeep has a hard top not a soft top. I notice some of the rubber molding was loose so I pushed it back in, but the rain still comes in. How can I fix the leak? When I drive in the rain, I do notice some dripping coming from the upper right corner of the windshield.

Do you think I need some new molding/sealing or what???

Thanks guys/gals!

Is it leaking on the top of the frame or at the bottom per chance? Or are you sure it is leaking through where the glass seals with the frame?

If it is leaking through the glass seal, those rubber seals that you see aren't doing a thing besides making it look better. There is some urethane seal in there on the frame flange that the glass is sitting on. You might need a touch up job on that.

Based on my knowledge there are only 3 places the thing can leak, on the top frame rail (not sure the exact set up on a hard top - never had one), through the urethane seal somewhere, or through the cowl seal (the most likely culprit).

I guess I'll have to peel off some of the molding and reapply some sealing. That's probably the problem. It's not leaking where the hard top meats the windshield. It's leaking from (I guess) behind the molding around the windshield. I'll have to take a look.

Thanks bryis!

There's a big piece of weather stripping beneath the windshield frame - this is normally where the large leaks develop when the "gasket" dries out and lets the water through. To change it, you need to be able to fold the windshield forward and unscrew the old seal - there's a bunch of auto sheet metal screws that hold it to the bottom of the windshield frame.

If you just want to temporarily repair the problem, you can clean the dirt & rust from around the upper and lower edges of the seal and then apply a bead of silicon.

There's also a body seam underneath the windshield and the cowl seal, it's possible that you're getting leaks from there as well.

Also make sure that the cowl vent drain tube (on the firewall) is clear, that can cause water to back up and come into the cab.

The leaks are not coming from around the outer part of the windshield, but more from the inner part of the windshield. I'm gonna pick up some sealant later this week.
