Just curious, what did you cut your frame with? Sawzall? It looks pretty clean. Any advice?

And yes, I've got all the same rust, almost identicle.

I used a combination of sawsall and 1/16" disk on my grinder.
I very carefully ground the frame rails and new stubs to match, within about 1/16" gap allowance, after initial cuts.

That's how I lost my Jeep. The frame rotten from the inside out, and cracked. I limped it home (~2 miles), supported the the frame with jackstands, and parted it out. I can't weld, and I wish I could. In time I'll learn.

Good luck with your repair, take your time, test it slow, this is not something you can half arse

Keep us posted (no pun indended)

I'm in the process also of dealing with rust. Not to hijack, but maybe I can get some opinions from fellow Jeep rebuilders if I should scrap my frame? It has been worked on before a while back, and the frame has been patched. Got more rust holes (3) that need to fixed. Should I keep the frame and patch it again? The tub is toast, I torched it in half, and the back half went to the scrap yard. I'll save the front because I'll use the firewall for a template, when I get a new fiberglass tub. I got $6 for my efforts, enough to buy lunch. I guess you can't get much for rust these days... Anyway I'd appreciate your thoughts on my frame...

I don't know what to say about your frame.
Firstly my advice would be biased.
Secondly the pictures are a little small and the angles make it hard to determine the damage.
My guess is that you may be better off building a frame...from scratch.

I have large eyelets...not sure if I'll use them or not.
It's probably a good idea to put them on because the hitch is low on the centerline, and might cause some undue stress.

I had that same problem on my '92 Wrangler, I found it when I went to install a class III receiver hitch. I was in denial too when I first discovered it. I stopped driving it on the road, but I still drove it around the trails behind my house. I figured it would eventually snap in that area, but much to my surprise it snapped in completely different area. One day while moving it to mow the grass the steering box twisted the the frame off where it mounted up to. So I opted to get another frame in much better condition and I figured while I was at it I'd replace as much as possible under a budget build. I started back in September and I'm nearly done now. A few more days and it will be back together nearly new.

Welcome to the forum!
Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.
My steering box has twisted off once before too.
I'll be strengthening that area in the near future as well.

Looks really good man. Will be tackling my rear frame area in the next few weeks. Not as bad as yours. Good work
