knocking noise while pushing gas pedal but only when in 5th

Just started out of the blue last night...doesnt matter what speed im going but as soon as I put the Jeep in 5th it begins making this knocking noise over and over, as soon as I let off the gas it stops..well you get the idea. Anyone know what this could be or how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you're losing 5th gear, a common problem with the AX-5 gearbox.

If you're not sure (no offense) you might want to take it to someone. If it were me, I would convert to an AX-15. I don't think the AX-5's are worth rebuilding, just my 2 cents though.

What size tires do you have? If you have 33s or bigger and you have not regeared, you should not be using 5th gear
