You just twist off the wing nuts on the air cleaner, pull off the air cleaner cover, grab the air filter, throw it away, and drop in the K&N. 30 second installation. You don't have to replace the whole air cleaner assembly, just the filter.

that is unless you want to fabricate a cold air intake. If you dont know what this does, it cools the air going into the engine further adding more molecules of oxygen to the mixture. This makes a better combustion mixer. Alot of the RICE BURNERS use this for power. I'm about to do this. Just go to an autostore and pick up a cheap cold air intake tube in the import performance car section and a K&N airfilter. Now attach the tube w/ filter on it to the rubbber going to the throttle body in place of the stock air box and DONE. You WILL have a boost in horsepower and maybe even get your fifth gear back

You could do that, except the 258 is carburated I'm not sure how you can do that with a carburator. Also, I've heard that the so-called "cold air" intakes actually take in hotter air from the compartment than the stock air box, you might want to think about that.

Doesn't your Jeep already have a cold air intake from the factory? Mine does. It is a piece of ducting that connects from the airfilter box to the left headlight.

Is the 4.2 carbed. I wouldnt know b/c i never had to deal with it. If not, try this mod. The stock air filter restricts some airflow. The cold air intake has little if any restriction and provides cold air to the engine further boosting HP. Got to this link and foolow the instructions. http://www.angelfire.com/trek/atropine/docs/tb.html

Bob...yeah, mine has that intake...
Is that just as good??
I figured a filter would be better to remove particles and stuff...

I've been looking all around for a cold air K&N type thing for the 258. K&N, Airaid etc... Don't make the 'thing' Does anyone know of who might I can see that making one up from scratch wouldn't be that tough but how about all the CA smog stuff plugged in and Ox sensor do dads
