Nope.
Only if its from a cherokee. If the TC came from a Wrangler that had the AX-15 then you don't need to do anything at all, not even a conversion kit.

On the re-clocking subject.
I have an extra AX15 from an XJ.
What's the best/easiest way to drill? Anybody have a template?

I can see why everyone loves the AX15. i layed the 3 and 4 gear sleeve from the ax5 next to the 15.

Far as I know, there isn't any way to tell the difference between an wrangler tC and an cherokee TC just from looking... there isn't any template that I know of for the bolt holes. Most guys just put it in and if it dfoesn't fit right they give it a twist until it does, and then use the TC itself for a pattern to re-drill the flange on the trans adapter housing.

The drive shaft is the same regardless of the TC you get as far as I know. If you get an 8.8 rear or a SYE (or both) *then* you have to worry about driveshafts.

I think you may have mis-read/researched something.
My AX15 went it in a few hours.
4 ton press? Too many beers?

Okay, reading back through your post...you can't swap shafts between the AX15 and AX5 that I know of.
Measure the input shaft snout on your AX15. There are a couple different sizes.
Verify your pilot bushing/bearing is correct for that size.
What bearings are you trying to remove?

thanks for yr intrst cper

if you scroll down you'll see a pic of a case bare ax15 and a gear sleave from an ax5. although i did both of these teardowns...i had no desire to.

i have a 91 with a 2.5 and thought a beefier ass15 would be good.

to answer yr question directly, none. i dont wish to change any bearings. what do i have to do to get a transmission back in my jeep so i can get back to work?
i was told that swapping the input shafts from my old ax5 to the new ass15 would allow me to be driving it. thats not gonna happen.

Okay, I may have missed it, but do you have a Dakota 2.5 bellhousing or adapter plate from AA/Novak?
Without one, the AX15 isn't going to work.
