HI John,
Glad to hear your carb is up and running again. It sounds like it really needed a rebuild.

I don't know why you would want to remove the choke plate. Obviously, if you remove it you won't have a choke which is not so good. I guess it would work if you want to sit in a cold Jeep, nursing the throttle, waiting ifor it to warm up enough so it will idle without your help.

If you remove the plate but leave the rest of the choke you wil still have the fast idle cam. So, it might cold idle by itself. But it certainly won't drive very well when its cold. I don't get it.

Sparky

Hey Sparky thanks for the input, the reason why i'd rather leave the choke plate off is due to the fact those two very little bolts that hold the choke plate on are stripped, whomever owned this jeep before me messed with them, they were a pain to get off with a good ratchet & socket. Just trying to avoid the hassle of putting it back on if i don't really need to, i tried two different hardware stores & they did not have correct size bolts i needed, close but no cigar.

another way to deal with this is to cannibalize an old carter carb and take off the parts from that one. I had a similar isssue with a broken piece on my carb when i was doing the venturi clean and DRILL (i drilled my venturi tubes wider with a #60drill bit and hand-held micro-drill). I found an old carter carb on ebay and took the pieces from that one.

here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Carte...spagenameZWDVW

HI John,
OK, I've got it now. You really should try to get your choke working.

Try this link to Small Parts, Inc. They have a huge selection of small specialty parts including screws. What I don't know is how to order the proper size and thread. Maybe you should call them for help. They are good folks.

Good luck, Sparky
