How easy was the gauge swap? Did the mfg have a wiring harness to existing wiring? Or did you have to cut up the original harness?
Thanks

Easy to do, like I said above just use the old gauge cluster as a wire diagram, it is easy to trace the runs. I just cut the stock jeep connector off and soldered the new wires in....

If you have a 90 YJ you should already have a serpintine belt???? but if you have the straight belts than it is just a matter of getting a reverse flow water pump and the pulleys off of a 258 tat had a serpintine.

If you are talking about the 4.0 head swap it is the same as the standard head you just have to make a new bracket for the power steering pump. You can simply add a small piece of metal to the top of the existing bracket and drill new holes..

Finally coming home!!!!! Leaving Iraq this week. I can not wait to get back to working on the Jeep and driving it.... I built it right up until I left for Iraq and never really got to have any fun with it. Now it is time to see what I can break. Most of the work I am going to do now is custom fabrication, bumpers etc.... I think I am going to treat myself to some new toys. I am looking into getting a Plasma cutter and a Pipe bender.

The art of justification:
I figure that a new set of bumpers that i like, Garvin style, will cost around 1500.00. Just so happens that is about what a Miller 625 X costs. The roll cage to keep my family safe will run me at least 1K for a good kit and as luck would have it a bender with a 1 3/4 die set is around 800.00 funny how these things work out!!!

Right now I have some new stuff waiting for me in boxs at the house.
1 new rear seat, besttop trailmax 2 (the new rig came without one)
new seatbelts
New Stereo
some grab handles
and a nice new Jeep hat!!

After installing that stuff I will move on to the following:

Roll cage
rear bumper
front bumper
rock guards
skid plates

I am really interested in taking on a custom dash, I was toying with the idea of intergrating the center console with the dash for more of a buggy feel. Just looking for somthing a little different.

J

Autometer rewire, done right

I finally got around to reworking the gauges. I put them in fast so I could get my engine running. I took an old computer power supply and used the 4 pin connectors to make the two connections. One is for the gauge lights and 12V power and the other 4 pin is for the sensor lines. One other thing I did was mount a small 1/8" rod to the oil gauge, I taped it to the base and than taped the tube to it about 1" out in order to prevent a kink in the line when putting it in an out. I am real happy with this setup since I can now pull the entire gauge pod out with 2 quick disconnect connectors and unscrewing the oil and air line.

Awesome build! I am gathering some info for my own build similar to this, what did you use for your throttle cable?

What made you pick the Holley 4412? Any reason to not go 4bbl?

What about TFI vs the HEI?

What pistons did you run?

Thanks for all of the great info!!!
