January 2012 YJOTM Vote Now!!!

Here is your first YJOTM contest of the year. A big debt of gratitude to our judges this month for helping me sort through the entries. Sorry it's a day later than usual but I'm a busy person. Even the judges expressed interest in how much actually goes into putting this together. I would also like to thank Metalcloak for their generous donation again this month. It seems that it doesn't last forever and I may have something different in store for our winner next month.

Best of luck to all!!!

My jeep is a 1990 Sahara, with the 4.2, 5 speed and hard top. It
allegedly lived most it's life being towed behind a RV & was mostly
stock when i bought it except for the chrome wheels.
What makes it unique? Good question, since all my ideas for mods come
from the good folks on this forum it hard to say whats unique. Two
things I do take pride in is the effort I have made to keep the Sahara
look while doing my mods and the fact that most of my mods were done
on the cheap with parts off of ebay/craigslist. Here's my short list
of mods and their approximate cost:
-mc2100 carb (ready to go out of the box)- $80
-Msd capacitive discharge ignition - $70
-team rush mod
-1.25" body lift - $90
-Set of old, used Canadian made 4" RC springs with new bushings- $75
-Home brew tc drop - $15
-TJ Sahara flares - $100
-Paint/supplies for the flares - $45
-Set of 4 new firestone destination mud terrains - $500 mounted and
balanced ( thank.
goodness for friends with employee discounts)
-Redneck speaker tube - speakers were a gift that I mounted in a pvc elbow. $?
Probably something I've missed. I am currently gathering parts for an
axle swap, and have plans to swap my ax15 for an auto (what can i say,
i'm too lazy to shift).

This is my 1993 YJ Sahara. I've owned it for over 11 years and put over 302,000 miles on it. I've had it since I was 16 (27 now). I took my fiance on our first date in it 11 years ago and it's gotten me out of some sticky situations. It's been my daily driver and a great learning tool for wrenching. I wheel it hard and drive to all the trails. I'm hoping one day it will grow up and be a big boy jeep.

Specs:

Engine/Trans/t-case: 4.0L, AX-15, NP231 with SYE and Tom Woods driveshafts front and rear.

Wheels & Tires: 33" x 10.5 BFG KM2's on Black Soft 8's.

Suspension: Brand new 3.5" Black Diamond springs, Currie boomerang shackles, Monroe Sensa-trac shocks,

Axles: D30 front with Yukon 4.10's and a Lock-Right, Ford 8.8 rear with Aussie locker.

Recovery: Modified Smittybilt rear bumper/tire carrier, Impact Fabworks front bumper, Rebuilt Warn M8000 winch.

Armor: Homebrew 1/4" x 4" x 4" steel angle rockers, Solid 8.8 cover, Rough Country D30 diff guard.

Misc: 1" Daystar body lift, Taurus E-fan swap, Daystar extended bumps, CB, High-Lift, etc.

I'm going to have to go with Soonermatt. I've followed his build thread and he's come a long way after the roll.

My buddy has an awesome yJ he built. He isn't much on internet stuff. I gotta be honest, I have thought about making a thread for him! LOL

Louie4 one thing I noticed is your jeep really gets used. It ain't no mall crawler.

I'm not sure I would have recovered it in such good condition without JeepForum. People here were able to tip me off about the oil that was leaking into my cylinders. So when it wouldn't turn over I knew to spin it without plugs, wipe the plugs and it started right up.

They also talked about the need for a reliable winch; how when I really need a winch I can't have it fail. My Warn was smoking as it pulled me up and out of the ledge. I think I would have purchased something unreliable if it weren't for JeepForum.

Thanks for the votes!
