I've got a broken female seatbelt latch...Aftermarket seatbelts any good?
My driver side seatbelt won't latch in my '88 YJ. It worked fine forever, then one day it wouldn't latch. I've hardly driven it after that, since I have to tuck the end in to the belt of my pants to give the illusion that it's buckled. Not to mention I don't feel terribly safe careening down the highway in a Jeep with no seatbelt.
I've been searching eBay for a used female end, but I'm afraid I'll just have the same problem later. Besides, they're going for crazy prices, since a new factory unit is nearly impossible to find. Has anyone tried the Crown model or the Beam's one from 4wd.com? These ones from Quadratec look really nice as well, but they're spendy and you have to buy the pair. Any thoughts? ![]()

A seat belt is not something you want to skimp on in prices. If the saying goes you get what you pay for i would want to pay a little more for a seat belt just my opinion

It's not the money I'm worried about, it's the quality. I'll buy the spendy ones if they're good. To be honest, I'd rather just have a factory replacement, but they're rare as hens' teeth these days. eBay prices are outrageous, and even then you could get a lemon.

Seatbelts are warrantied for life. Have your dealer order you a new one for free. I just had some ordered and installed for free on a 92 Honda Accord.

I haven't heard that before.
![]() UPDATE: I did a quick fix just so it would be safe to drive. I took one of the female ends from the back seat and bolted it in the front. I used the original plastic guided thing from the one I took out, but I couldn't thread the belt through. I just zip-tied it to the outside for now. It's really long, but it works, and it's up where I can reach it. As soon as the wife gives me the okay I'll order a set from Quadratec. |

I replaced both of my front ones with these from Summit Racing... AutoLoc SB3PRBK - AutoLoc 3-Point Retractable Seat Belt Harnesses - Overview - SummitRacing.com
they're universal, but work just fine... i just had to put a mount extension to raise the female end a bit. edit... in case you don't want black, they have other colors available... here's the whole listing... http://www.summitracing.com/search/Brand/AutoLoc/Product-Line/AutoLoc-3-Point-Retractable-Seat-Belt-Harnesses/?autoview=SKU

I bought the universals from 4wd.com and they suck. When putting them on, you have pull them very slowly or they lock up. They also don't retract very well either. I read somewhere that the universals don't have a provision to orient the mechanism properly so they compensate by locking up very quickly. Either way it annoys me.
I think I may switch over and get a set of TJ factory belts. Either way jeepsareus.com has them both (TJ and YJ).

You can get the same "factory replacement" seat belt that Quadratech sells from JC Whitney, except you don't have to order a pair, you can order just one seat belt.

I bought some universals from http://www.gotbelts.com/ . Good quality and they bolted right up. You do have to pull on them slowly, otherwise they lock up. Doesn't bother me though.

I one broke, I'd just get the pair anyway, since obviously the second is gonna fail soon anyway.
