Issues replacing manifold

Im replacing the exaust manifold on my 90 2.5. My big question is how do I disconnect the manifold from the intake. There is a tub going between the exaust and the intake and I cannot seem to get it appart. Is there a special tool or something to do this?? Any advice would be helpful.

I have tried alot of stuff including a mallot. I cannot seem to get a bite on it to turn. I also cannot figure out where it will turn and what direction.
