Interior light issues - dome light and wiring mess

I'm trying to get the dome light in a sound bar working with my softtop. Due to the current state of my interior 'courtesy' lighting (this is the drivers side: wire cut, not plugged in, light exists but doesn't work. On passenger side the wiring is intact but has no bulb/fixture):

... we thought it would be easiest to wire it into the rear hardtop wires/harness. When the hardtop is on, I can turn the rear HT dome light on via the dimmer switch in the dash. This is the only way the HT light can come on and it doesn't matter if keys are in ignition or not.

The problem is now that we've wired the soundbar light into the rear harness (pink wire), it's a constant feed and the light stays on no matter what we do with the dash dimmer switch.

The sound bar wires are yellow (ground) and red (assumed power). Why would the HT dome light work (turn on/off) but the soundbar light constantly stays on? What are we missing? Thanks!
