Intake ideas

I want to a fabricate a new intake as the stock system is in danger when I cross deep rivers.

I have the filter and hose. Question is where should I mount it to as it will recieve a good amount of cold air. I think over the engine it would get really hot air which is bad for MPG and power. Any ideas? Pictures would help.

I'd go for higher and on the same side as you are now if you're wanting cold air. Course a snorkel would be best for that.
