That's an aweful lot of weight to be hanging off your tailgate. I had a 33 hanging off mine for a while and it started to rip the gate in two. I would look into a swing out carrier that can handle the weight of a tire and gas cans.

$129 and free shipping comes with the can mount and jack mount...additional can mount is $40
I was thinking about doing that until my dad brought up the point that if someone were to rear end me it would explode, especially if the tank was empty

stuff doesn;t just explode because it gets in an accident. you have to have a spark to ignite the fumes. if stuff did just explode, my grand cherokee would have blown up when we got hit because our jeep got bent like an L.

he must be thinking of the old pinto horror stories that were just stories. no one blew up from being rear ended in those either but the media sure made everyone think it happened a few times a day.

I don't feel like working on anything at this time so i sold my yj.

agreed, your gas can would not just explode, I would be more worried about it getting stolen.

I have a garage so I don't worry about it being stolen but I am sure that you could come up with a way to lock it. And if your Jeep is lifted it's going to take a bigger than average vehicle to hit the gas can, you'll have bigger worries than the can!

Besides, look at all the other mounts...they are just as exposed.

I just posted in another thread on here about my mounting of the smittybilt can mount. Worked out ok and I like the look, but was a p.i.m.a. Lottsa searching the interweb and this forum,(which is F'n AWESOME), and you should find something that fits the budget and you like, which is really what it's all about.
