Increase Horsepower

What are some cheap or easy ways to gain a little more horsepower? Top end ( 5th gear) is really weak on hills.

One of the easiest is to make an air intake. If you haven't rmove the air flow restrictor from your Air filter tube that helps. Sounds like you need re gearing though.
There are more lots more ways, what enginge do you have?

4.0l High Output. I removed the CAT. from the exhaust and this helped a lot.

Disconnect the hose going into the air cleaner and drive it around the block. When your done you will want an air intake..

I put 8mm spark plug wire and msd blaster 2 coil and air intake. Now I can use my 5th gear and save some gas milages

btw I've 95 yj 2.5L , 32" bfgoodrich.

As stated. if you wish to stay with stock air cleaner, at least go with a K&N filter, remove restrictor in outlet side of air box, or get a new air intake.. K&N makes one for about 250. Change exhaust, go with a header, easy flow cat and large dia muffler. Complete set-up between 250-700 depending on brand names of products. If you have a lift (larger tires) and have not changed the gears, then this needs to be done first, all the rest is just chump change if you dont have the right gear set-up

Do an electric fan conversion, if you get the cheap fans from Pep Boys or an auto parts store, they are like $70 and work just as well as the others. I have 31s on a 2.5L 4cyl with stock gearing and it has given me 20 more miles per tank, plus a VERY noticeable difference in power around town and speeds on the highway. Go for it.

OK, let me make a list and put everything in perspective.
1. 8mm Sparkplug wires
2. MSD Blaster 2 Coil
3. K&N Air Intake
4. Easyflow Cat and Large dia. Muffler
5. Headers
6. Electric Fan Conversion

Now what would you purchase first.

after all that, a chip would help, but not alot of noticable diffrence for what you pay

have anyone try putting on 4.0 throttle body on 2.5L engine?
i've been told that might help too...I want to borrow my friend throttle body and try it...I'll let you guys know the out come...

oh ya...I use accel spark plugs wire (universal) it was kinda long cable so i got to cut it and share the cable with my 2 other friends...basicly you can use 1 pak cable for 3 jeeps as long as you didn't waste too much cable when you trim it....bigger cable might help too....

Dont forget a low temperature thermostat to go with the chip.
No horsepower gain whatsoever..Unless it comes with a sticker.

ive heard that a colder thermostat will also help increase horse power if there is any truth to this it may explain were jet gets there horse power ive thought about this but never tried it

And remember a NOS and a Type R sticker together provide a 150 HP increase.

Seriously, forget K & N any good air intake will do the trick, K&N is totally overpriced. I've seen home built units that dyno better than the K&N, made for a few bucks as compaired to $200-300 for theirs. The whole idea is to get more air and smoother air flow.

Opening up the exhaust system will give you a good bang for your buck also.
