TJ's will have the fuel fill on the left side instead of behind the license plate. And also if you can see the leaf springs/ or shackles, that would be a YJ.

I always do the same thing. Also, the hinges on the TJ are different. YJs have a military wrap, TJs have reinforced hinges.

Oh yeah, and usually those ugly "milk jugs" things on the bumper and really faded grey fenderflares are a dead giveaway for a TJ.

1. Observation of "spare" nuts and bolts falling from beneath.

2. Loose wires hanging below the back of the jeep with no immediate hints as to the origins of said wires... Yet all the rear lights seem to be working.

3. Visible rust cancer consuming the gas tank skid or perhaps the entire jeep.

4. Strange noise, squeaking, groaning comming from the jeep while in motion (from either jeep or driver).

YJ has square headlights TJ have round headlights

YJ fuel is behind license plate, tj is on left side

Leaf springs, vs tj coil springs

Fenderflares are also very different.

I think those are the easiest ways to know from a distance and I covered all sides.

This won't help from the back but when looking at the sides the YJs used the older hood catch mechanism as did the CJs and the TJs switched to a more latch type system.

It's so true. I mean, I don't even have AC, but that is funny. I know a few people who do that.

The U.S. Army vaguely envisioned something bigger than a motorcycle, smaller than a truck, and undaunted by the most difficult terrain.
