ideas on 2" stretch using modified perches?
been on the lookout on Craigslist (too cold to hit the U-pull yards yet) for an 8.8
I know I'll need to weld new perches on, and also want to get a 2-3" stretch in the rear. Problem for me, I can't justify to myself (or my wife) purchasing Waggy springs when just this past summer I installed brand new springs from BDS.
In looking around at perches, I came across the MORE perches which, from the size of them, I believe are designed for SOA. (they're about 7" long, I believe to help with spring wrap)
The MORE perches have 3 holes for locating the pin... centered, 1" forward and 1" back. I plan to stay SUA, so I know the 7" perch will flatten out the springs a little as they are.
What I was thinking was trimming down the back side of the perch, then drilling a new hole in the plate to increase the stretch (like the pic below). I know i'll also need to redrill (or possibly make new) the u-bolt plates, and have no problem doing that.
Anyone forsee any problems doing something like this?
The more you stretch it to the rear, the greater the chance you have of the rear diff cover contacting the gas tank skid, especially with an aftermarket cover.
I'd trim the shoulders down as far as possible (but not so much as to allow the centerpin to bottom out against the axle tube).
2" may be too much.
just move the spring hangers.
