I want to build a diesel jeep

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cummi...QQcmdZViewItem

The 3.9L comes in at around 900 lbs. Only about 300 more than a 4.0L I imagine the torque would be near 300 lbs on this motor. No idea where to get a transmission for it, but I would use an atlas II for the t-case. There was a jeep on e-bay a few months ago with this engine in it. I know I'll never actually do this conversion, but it is nice to dream.

The auction states the engine weighs 900 lbs. I have no experience with this engine, so I have no idea what it actually weighs. If it's only 700 lbs you could leave an YJ front suspension stock.

a 4.0 is better than that diesle...the 4.0 has 170horses that 60 more than that motor and 225 ft/lbs of torque...if i wanted a motor i would go with a chevy 350 or something better

I'll bet the engine is good for around 25 MPG. Way better than my 4.5L for sure. I doubt my engine makes 300 lbs of torque. Besides, a little tuning of the turbo and that thing would fly. I imagine that engine makes all it's torque around 1000 rpm's.

The HP rating is so low only because HP is a function of RPMs... and since diesels don't rev very high their HP ratings are lower.

It all depends on what you would use the thing for on which one would be better or not. But yes, the 3.9 is more in the range of 700lbs. If you count all the other things, it could get to 900 quickly, but the engine itself is only about 700. But if you are talking just raw numbers, you could get that much torque out of a stroked 4.0 for about the same money.

but i'd be willing to bet that a stroked 4.0 won't last much past 250,000 miles...

i no that diesel engine dont rev up high at all...they have globs of low end power.. im saying for that kinda of money i would invest it in something else...3k thats alot..u can easily buy a used lt1 motor for that well way less than that...and u will get alot more horses and similar torque..

That 3.9L would be good if you do alot of traveling or you pull a boat or something. But for high revs in a mud hole or alot of crawling, a small block V-8 almost can't be beat. And I doubt you could get 300 lbs of torque out of a stroked 4.0L unless it was sleeved and bored out to a 5.0L.
