I need help with my t-case
I have a stock 90 yj all stock but I cant figure out what kind of t-case I have. I know I have a pos ba10/5 tranny. Can you help me figure this out? And is it a good t-case to have if I am up grading to an ax-15? Also I am about to buy the tranny. What are some good things to look for to see if it is a good tranny or not. I dont want to buy a pos.

I am a bit confused here. You "should" have the AX-15 already and that would be mated with an NP231, 23 spline input tcase. "IF" you have a BA-10/5, then you have the same tcase, only in a 21 spline count.
What makes you think you have the BA-10??? They stopped putting the Puegoet into the YJ on March 9, 1989 then swapped to the AX-15. A side by side shot, BA on the left, AX on the right. You can see that the BA splits down the middle length wise and the AX is a one peice unit ![]() |

I think it is the ba-10 because its narrow and it has the round boot where the shifter goes in. Is there another way to tell if it is one or the other? Do u know of a good way to tell if a transmission is good or not? I ask because I am looking to buy an ax-15 and i dont want to buy a pile of crap. Or would you think that fixing the one I have know would be cheeper? Its hard to down shift when I have a little speed. I was told my front main was going out and I think the guy said the 5th gear syncro. Also it was leeking oil out the top where the shifter goes after I got it hot, do you know if there is supposed to be a seal there or what?
