I need help identifying an 8.8

I have been looking hi and low for an 8.8 with 4:10 gears. It seems 3:73s are a dime a dozen.

Also, no one knows what gears they have when I find them on craigslist. The latest one I found the guy sent me numbers he says he got off the differential. I have looked at a lot of 8.8's and have never seen numbers like these. Here is the number he sent me.

96128355887804

Any ideas on how to look these up or if they are even off the differential?

Thanks

Did that include brakes? How much was it after shipping?

I didnt have it shipped....the site gives you local junk yards that have the parts.....just a tip, the 8.8LSD I got was out of a 6cyl not an 8cyl, same rear end but the 6cyl was $200 cheaper
so $150 and I got the 95 jeep yj d30 with 4.11 for $150 also.

and I got the brakes and drive shaft flange. but I had to travel an hour away to get it.

I was in your shoes 15 yrs ago. Don't be afraid of re-gearing if the rest of the axle is sound, brakes and such. Do it yourself and learn something. It's a lot easier if the axle is on the bench too.

Thanks for your help! I'm interested in this one. I've never used Car-part.com, do you order through them or do you contact the salvage yard?

I have one more local yard to check on Friday before taking a road trip for this one. I need to spend the cash while I still have it...

Thanks Don. I've considered this multiple times. Since I'm not in a big rush to get this done I have been biding my time and looking for a good one with 4:10's.

If I was to regear, is there a carrier break from 3:73's to 4:10's?

It would be a good skill to have.

You have to get a hold of the yard. The yard may ship but you would have to ask. I checked the ones that came out of V8 explorers and they were twice as much. They are the same rear end!!!
Long story but the second 8.8 I picked up didnt have the brake lines and DS flange so I just asked for it and they threw it in.

There's no carrier break. Reread the link.
