I went for a drive, upon going up a hill, jeep made a burp noise and lost all power. Initial thought was the fuel pump went out but it is getting fuel. the coil tested good, replaced crank sensor, still no power to coil. replaced ecu (ouch ) but still no power to coil?? checked relays, ASR, etc. everything works when swapped out...any thoughts why no power to coil?

95 does not have an ICM.
Back of the alternator is the plastic block. From the block find the dark green/back wire. Follow it to the splice. One leg of the splice goes to the coil and the other leg goes to the ASD.
Start there.
If OK then start probing that green/black from the ASD to each sensor. It is the common wire for all sensors.

thank you ...will give it a try...by ASD what do you mean? everyone keeps saying ECU, but check engine lite comes on and then off after a few seconds.....if not work wouldn't come on at all...haven't installed ECU yet at 170.00 my cost (work at an auto parts store) only ordered it since 5-7 days out in case it was the problem...

ASD - Automatic Shutdown Device.
Which is a relay in the underhood fuse box. PDC - Power Distribution Center.
XJ ecm will work as well. Often a forum member has an extra ECM available.
The two wires at the coil are the green/black we already talked about and the second wire......Which comes in different colors that goes directly to the ECM.
Since your check engine light works have you tried pulling the codes ? Google Jeep ECM codes OBD 1.

ok...fuses were checked/swapped..everything still worked no matter what. did the key on/off check...did a 12 and a 55, 12 is a/c? i don't have a/c (site says battery disconnected but it is), 55 is no code output? went and rented an obd 1 scanner, all it said was check cable, not connected. going to check wires...

if your getting check engine codes then you have power to the ecu. Im guessing you have a problem in the distributor (aka camshaft position sensor).

You should be able to use an ECU for any year that had the same setup. I'm not positive about the 2.5, but it's likely 92-95, Wranglers and Cherokees (did they get 2.5s?). Anyway, as long as the ECU matches the same accessories as yours, you're good (A/C, ABS, or whatever else and ECU could detail). My 4.0L currently runs off a Grand Cherokee ECU that I had to be creative to get wired in...anyway...
Are you sure the ECU is fried? When you key the Jeep on, does the check engine light turn on for 3 seconds and go off? If so, the ECU might still be good.
There are 2 sensors needed for the ASD to allow power to the coil: crank position sensor (on the bellhousing) and camshaft position sensor (in the distributor). You can measure the resistance of both of these against the numbers listed in the Haynes manual to see if they are functional. I've purchased a CPS from a part store only to find out it was bad. While you're measuring stuff, measure the resistance to your coil again, make sure both the high-tension side and low side check out.
The engine codes you got: 12 (indicates battery has been disconnected recently--goes away after 50 ignition events) and 55 (end of code sequence).
