I found an NP231 J transfer case local for $125. Should I pick it up to replace my NP207? Thoughts?

you need a transfer case with a 21 spline. they came with the puggy trans and in 4cyl jeeps, 6 cyl has a 23 spline.

I read you could swap the input shaft for a 21 spline if it is the 23 spline shaft. Is that not true?

Yes you can. What year Jeep is it from? I have my old 21 spline shaft if you are interested.

I spoke to the guy and it is a 21 spline. Someone else is looking at it tonight. If he doesn't take it, it will be mine.

I just found a 21 spline NP231j for $75! Now, does anyone know a good swap write up? From what I have read, there are only a couple of smaller items to address with the swap. Is that right?

So the other TC I was looking at got bought. However, I found another listed at $75 so I drove up to look at it and ended up buying it for $60. It was an NP231 AMC, built in 88. I had to buy a speedo gear and gear housing because they were gone, but I am still in for $100. Now to finish the Ford 8.8, SYE and Woods DS!

The 4x4 shift linkage should need to lengthened 2" if I recall. It's a direct bolt in though.
