Howell EFI install
How hard is the Howell install on an 88 YJ? Is this something that can be done in a normal garage? How much tuning is nessary after?

Easy to do but go s l o w and follow all the steps. I, and a few others, have a fairly detailed write up with pictures. search under my name.
no special tools needed. really no tuning. do an HEI distro at the same time for max improvement if you come to san diego I can show you mine. or, come here. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f317/anza-borrego-trails-camping-trip-702831/ feel free to ask questions when you get close

Yep, really easy. I did mine basically alongside the road next to the house since my crap won't fit in my garage. The only "specialty tool" you really may need is a timing light and you should get one of those anyway.
I agree 100% with the distributor upgrade as well.

Or you could do a holley 4 barrel and offy intake swap beside your house at half time during a football game. The performance is about the same, "well", if you use a holley TA off/road series carb. Just the amount of time and money is different. You can get a new 470 Ta holly 4 barrel and offy intake for around 700.00$ and keep your mechanical fuel pump on the side of the block. No computer or sensors to hook up, so it saves time as well as money and runs strong. Of course a cam and a header doesn't hurt either if you really want to slap a round some 4.0's he he!!!!!!

You could do a 4.0 head change and install the fuel injection for about the same price including all the part and have a whole lot better system.
Wendell you didn't look where they are from that can not be done in Calf. They get excited out there if you change things that way for a road vehicle. LOL

I did mine after work a couple of hours at a time over a few days. You can go to the Howell website and download the installation instructions. You should download them and read through them a couple of times, they have pics too. If you feel comfortable with the instructions, then go for it. If not, then drop your jeep by for a week or so and I'll help you out.
Well I would help you if you were close by. |

That polition police stuff can be such a load of crap. I mean yea if you drive a piece of junk an dont maintain it and it wouldnt pass emmisions without spending more then the vehicles worth thats one thing but if your vehicle is clean it shouldnt matter how you got it clean. Its just one more money making scam like most other things in this world.
