How Loud is your YJ on Road and Why

I was just curious how loud everyones yj is and if they take a concern to keep it quiet. I only drive my jeep on the weekends and offroading, just because its loud/bumpy and annoying on the 5am drive to work. What noise is it? Gear/diff/trans howling, engine noise, tire noise, lack of sound barrier, wind noise etc.

In a YJ it is mixture of all the above. I'd say with the top on it's probably between 57-63 dB.... I don't mind... Is it a quiet as my moms BMW, heck no, but thats why I love it.

Nope its just normal, I am relatively new to jeeps (5 months and counting), I have been told that mine is in excellent running condition. The said noises are just all part of the experience. You can add insulation in the form of thicker carpets or you can go to Uhaul and buy moving mats, cut those mats and put them under the carpets. Great for a daily driven jeep.

Nope its just all part of the experience. I am relatively new to jeeps (4 months and counting), I have been told that mine is in excellent running condition (for now). If you want more noise reduction, you can; 1) bedline the tub, 2) get thicker carpets, 3) go to Uhaul or someplace and buy moving mats and cut them to fit under your mats..... I'm about to do numbers 1 and 3. Just my .02. Good for a daily driven jeep.

You have carpets?

Loud but bearable. Mine makes a solid deep moaning noise like a bus taking off. The kind of noise you can feel. I don't actually get much wind noise till about 40 MPH.

That's not a double post, first you say 5 months and counting and then 4 months and counting. You're sure it's your iPhone app?

The first time I tried to post the long first reply, the app said "this is a double post" I was like what? I only pressed the button once.... So I went back and quoted someone else and pressed 4 instead of 5 and changed other things. Complete operator fail!

Now back to topic.

Mud tires, 24" glasspack, steel floors. It's even worse with the hard top on. Oh well. No stereo. Just put in ear plugs.

It's annoying. I want to put a decent muffler on and do a full tailpipe. Bedline the tub, get some street rollers. I spend most of my time working on more important things.

Its loud - rumbling exhaust, agricultural mechanical noises from the transmission/clutch area, weird knocking at idle, trucks passing me on the freeway, wife complaining about all of the above - but that's why I keep a bag of ear plugs in it. Any trip above 60 miles and I pop them in. Problem solved.
