How Long Can I Run With Bad Head Gasket?

I'm going through around 1/2 gallon of coolant a week, maybe more depending on how much I'm driving. Did the head gasket test on the radiator and it showed exhaust gas in the coolant.

So I need a new head gasket.

Low on wrenching time right now.

How long can I drive like this? Mind you, I only drive my YJ around 75 miles a week these days as it's a second car.

I have 203k miles on a 95 2.5 engine.

The longer you run it the more damage your doing to your motor you are probably leaking coolant into the oil or vice versa and it can lead to very very bad consequences I would park it until you get it fixed if you plan on reusing that motor

should have stopped driving it the day you did the test, you are only doing more damage now

Ditto. The moment you noticed your engine was eating coolant you should have stopped driving it.

If you continue to drive it with a bad head gasket you may very well end up warping the head, if you haven't already. My brother did this to two different cars.

Thanks. Advice taken.

What was I thinking? ha ha

These responses will be relayed to my wife when she grumbles about me working in the garage this weekend.

You can drive it until seizes if you want to! Probably not a good idea though.

I get the same grumbling from my girlfriend, it all stopped when she took her Lincoln Navi to the shop for a full tune up, oil change yadda yadda, and it cost her almost 800.00 and i showed her I could have done for less than half and a saturday in the garage, and still could have drover her to dinner in it that night
