I don't know the brand, but they are some good ones I think. The ebay store was called Lightning auto

I'm very happy with them, just put the hard top back on 2 weeks ago, and have been using the tj uppers again. Sense the write-up, all I've done is tweek the frames a little more and the fit is great on mine.

I for one, much appreciate your thread. If it wasn't for this I would be dropping a bunch of money that I don't have on full doors or fiberglass uppers. One thing that I am surprised about is that I bought a set of factory tj upppers from a guy on craigslist and they each fit each side completely different. I just thought that ones from the factory would be a little closer with the tolerances.

One other quick note, while welding the pins up I laid out wet rags on the door and they kept the doors nice from getting all melted.

Soft to Hardtop conversion

My YJ came with a new Achilles top, steel half doors with soft uppers. I got a great deal on a hard top but don't know what I all need to make it a clean fit/successful conversion. I know have my answer for the TJ uppers which is great, but since you guys know this site far better than I, has anyone done this conversion with pictures or at least a decent explanation, thanks guys.

what about the tj upper door sliders? the ones that are soft top cloth with a glass slider? from the pictures i can find of those online, it looks like they slide into the half doors like the zippered ones so maybe they too can be re-welded to fit? if anyone has a picture of these specifically of the frames post it up. im tired of having to ratchet strap my doors to keep the snow out!!!

Just did this. There is just no way to get the frames to sit in flush with the door. I tried everything. I have a good seal at the windshield but the back dont fit. They just seem to long. These are factory tj frames to. I got it to the point where it kinda seals, guess it will have to do.

Your probably going to have to shift the top back a little bit. I had to play with mine for a bit to get it right.

I had to play with mine quite a bit to get everything perfect. I can swap back and forth from full to half at will after setup

Nice thread I just saw this tonight due to google. I've been running a TJ Viking soft top on my YJ for the last year with TJ soft Uppers and just test fitted a YJ hard top to them. The soft upper mod was the same as you did and we just did another one for a customer today. The TJ upper door frame mod takes about 30 min. a side. Here are some pics of my blue YJ.

And here is a customer's that we did today.

Here is also a link to my YJ build thread from my forum. http://moab-offroad.net/smf/index.php?topic=1006.0

Great thread by the way hope this encourages more people to do this mod.

Cheers,
Max

This was spot on !!! Thank you I did mine today I will just add the way I did mine we cut tem at the frame as apposed to in the middle of the last pin. then lined it up at the joint tacked it with a tig welder using argon so no worries to burning paint..then once it was tacked we removed the frame welded up a new joint and then cut off the remaining over hang of material..hope that made sense..either way awesome idea and now my Yj has CJ and TJ in her! Shes bad!
